The Reform Experience Revealed: 5 Minutes with Richard Hillyer and Jack Joseph of WT Malouf

Richard and Jack are regular Reform clients. Projects include the prestigious Contour, Cronulla and Verse Apartments, Queenscliff. We sat down for a 1-on-1 with them for a quick chat about their Reform Projects experience so far. Read on to find out what it’s like to work with us…

Thanks for joining us, Richard and Jack. Let’s start with how you first heard about Reform Projects?
It was through Reform Projects Director Nathan Scarf. Our families have a lot of history and we had been speaking for some time about Reform building our next project. I was introduced to Carl and Alex from the team and was very impressed with their knowledge and expertise. It helps that they are easy to get along with!

What made you choose us for your builds? What was most important to you when you were making that decision?
From tender stage, there was a lot of transparency and detailed feedback on the design. At our first meeting on the project, there were a variety of Value Management solutions presented. Some we used, some we didn’t, but that extra effort in putting all options on the table was greatly appreciated. The quality of Reform’s previous projects was shown to our team prior to engagement and in my biased opinion, they have surpassed their past work. Once you walk through a unit at Contour, you can see the level of detail and attention that has been delivered, and now the building is completed, the market is seeing it also.

Obviously, you’ve met and worked with different Reform team members throughout your project. Tell us a bit about who was involved in your builds, and what it was like having their expertise onboard.
We worked with Alex, Dara, Chris, Mark, and Tristan. They were all great to work with (even if we needed an interpreter to understand Dara’s Irish accent!). From the beginning of the project, it was clear that we could all work together as a team to deliver the end product.
There was never any suggestion that we were on opposing sides which can sometimes happen between a Builder and Superintendent. Their collective knowledge was a great help and each of them contributed their own talents to the construction detail, building practicality, finishes, and delivery. I was particularly impressed that Reform engaged a university cadet as well. I think it is extremely important to give young people a chance to gain experience.

A great project often isn’t without its challenges – was there any particular challenge or situation where you relied on our expertise?
Probably the most pressing issue was the Covid pandemic and the resulting shutdowns and restrictions that occurred midway through the project. These were handled really quickly and really well.

If you had to pick three words that describe what it’s like to work with Reform Projects, what would they be?
Cooperative; Thorough; Straightforward.

Any advice for a fellow developer who is considering working with us?
The same advice I give to all developers: Know what you want to build before you start and get your design and detailing done early.

Breaking News: What’s happening on site

Our Sydney projects are moving at a pace!

Our Lang Road project is looking more like a home every day. The brick veneer is finished and now ready for the fascia boards prior to the completion of copper roofing.

Over in Vaucluse at our Yugen boutique apartment block, bulk excavation is underway, our team has started shotcrete and the rear boundary hand dug piles are progressing.

And in Bellevue Hill, the late blast of Winter sunshine has resulted in great progress. External render works are almost complete with scaffold removed and external paintwork commencing at our Boronia Road Residence. Down the road at our eco-conscious Bellevue Hill Residence, ground floor work is well underway, including brickwork, steel posts, and garage slab.

On the ever-glorious Northern Beaches, bulk excavation continues at our four-storey, three-residence Verse Apartments in Queenscliff. Whilst over at the world-famous Manly beach, our luxurious seafront North Steyne Apartments now have inground services and we are moving onto forming the basement slab. The Clontarf site team has been especially busy, demolishing the existing house, and beginning the detailed excavation of the site.
